The BodyMind Center
The BodyMind Center is a private educational community resource for personal growth and alternative healing. the Center primarily offers the study of movement and perception, exploring how these core topics can advance individual development of alertness, clarity of thought, increased conscious awareness, and grace in movement. The Center's principal services are provided through beginning, intermediate, and advanced on-site or private classes. All disciplines are based on a synthesis of Oriental and Western philosophies and practiced for personal development and insight.
Dian Lopez, R.M.T., is Horacio's life partner and assists the Center with a variety of program services. She is a Registered Massage Therapist, and also is certified as a Touch for Health Instructor. As a graduate of the University of Missouri in Journalism, she has bridged her artistic talents through visual mediums of painting and jewelry making to name a few.
Jacqi Crow, long-time student and apprentice, is a R.M.T., massage therapy instructor and teaches Beginning Tai Chi Chuan, Introductory Chi Kung, and basic form correction. Additionally, Jacqi is a certified Reiki Master, Body Talk therapist and teaches Reiki classes locally.
Various approaches to personalized health and healing are available at the Center on an individual or small group basis. The Center is equipped to provide several modalities of therapeutic massage by Registered Massage Therapists, including: Swedish Massage, Esalen Massage, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Polarity Therapy, Reiki Therapy and Reiki Classes, Touch for Health therapy sessions and classes, Alexander Technique, and Awareness through Movement (Feldenkrais) Classes.
It is possible to schedule on-site private and small group studies of Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kung, Meditation, and Somatic Education, for individual concerns or scheduling demands. Off-site classes of this type are presently being conducted for staff members of corporate and other large and medium-size businesses.
The Center's on-site Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung classes offer the simplest, most engaging, and relatively non-strenuous way to begin learning about the basics: How does our body work? How does it feel, and how can we know, when the body is working as it should? How do we identify and reconnect to primary internal sources of physical and mental energy?
In addition to Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kung, Somatic Education, and Meditation, other classes are offered at the Center based on students' needs and collective demand. They aim at reconnecting the "BodyMind" through the development of expanded conscious awareness and sensitivity, in a series of practical and useful exercises. Activities of this nature usually take place in small study groups where everyone has the opportunity to talk about their experiences and achieve the most benefit possible through sharing as well as practicing.
During the practical study of these processes we acknowledge, investigate and incorporate into our personal experiences the insights of Eastern and Western pioneers in the fields of healing, awareness through movement, bioenergetics, ecstatic dance, and drumming. The study group sessions explore a host of topics relating to physical and experiential connections, concepts of Wholeness, and alternative paradigms for Whole Health and Healing.
From the experience derived from many Traditions, studied and practiced by Horacio for more than three decades, developed and refined through generations of human experience and spiritual advancement, a synthesis is manifested. To give it a name, we call it: From NOWHERE to NOW-HERE.
